Natalie Portman’s Shaved Head - Me + Yr Daughter
—-
Weird. In my search for the band’s links up there, I just learned that this gang is from Seattle. Who’d’a thunk they grew out of the same area that bred Sir Mixalot, Nirvana, and The Presidents of the United States of America?
That gives me an idea for tomorrow.
I feel kind of weird posting this for a couple of reasons. First, I’ve only listened to it one and a half times this past year. Second, I feel like most people who would read a music blog have heard this track by now. Then again, I’ve been posting Sam Cooke and Bruce Springsteen, so perhaps under-the-radar hasn’t been my forte lately.
Funny how a song can mean so much to you, or define a major portion of your life, and then be tossed aside so quickly and easily. Me + Yr Daughter was THE song of Summer 2008 for me. I listened to it while waiting for the bus in Montreal. I listened to it while driving to pick up friends, driving to go out, driving to the gym for my once-weekly (I know, shameful…) workout.
And now, like I said before, I haven’t listened to it much at all for almost 12 months.
The weird thing is, a couple of other bands have lasted. The Wombats, for example. Muscles. MGMT. These guys defined last summer.
What makes some music so disposable, and other tracks not nearly as much?
